Oaikhena Osagie Esq, Salutes Nigerian Lawyers, on democracy day and like Oliver Twist, asks for more . Today the 12th day of June is the day we the people of Nigeria celebrate democracy. Democracy as a system has its origin from the open halls in Athens. It was President Wilson who said in 1917 that ” The World must be made safe for democracy. We have no selfish ends to serve. We desire no conquest, we seek no material compensation for the sacrifices we shall freely make. We are but one of the champions of the rights of mankind ” . I urge as as Lawyers to stand for justice, let us emulate our founding fathers that laid the foundations for our today’s democracy, let us not forget Chief Gani Fawehimi SAN (of blessed memory) and Our own living legend, Chief Femi Falana‚Ķ These are men that can hold the burning coal in their hand for years , to uphold the tenents of Democracy. However we cannot shout Eureka, as we have much work to do in the fight for justice and freedom without which democracy cannot stand. God bless the Nigerian Bar Association. , Osagie Oaikhena Esq, L.
